Beata’s narrative storytelling work has appeared on Cartoon Network, Disney, YLE, Sveriges Television, Netflix, and numerous film festivals including BFI London, Manaki Brothers International and Shanghai International Film Festival. She has developed stories for Warner Bros. ITVP Finland, Zodiak Kids and Gigglebug, Man of Action, Invisible Narratives, Handle Productions, Onerva Pictures and more. The first Finnish screenwriting fellow to graduate from the American Film Institute Conservatory, Beata’s work focuses on coming-of-age stories, cross-cultural rom coms, and historical tales that question the status quo — highlighting characters and moments in time that are rarely given center stage. Her VR screenplay for “Alone at Night” was selected to the 2020 Venice Film Festival Gap-Financing market for works in progress (a collaboration between Handle Productions and Tea Time Research). Many of Beata’s works have been supported by significant Nordic and European art grants.
A polyglot, Beata’s work is strongly informed by her fish-out-of-water bilingual upbringing in Finland, and later from coming-of-age as an immigrant in New York. She has spent her entire life in entertainment, starting as a child performer in a TV-commercial in Helsinki, working her way up to the stage of the Finnish National Opera, two stages of the Swedish-speaking National Theatre in Finland, Svenska Teatern, and eventually performing internationally. These experiences, as well as her work behind the camera as an AD and AC, are all lessons she brings to her screenwriting.
